Is it illegal to travel to Cuba from the United States?
It is still 100% legal to do so. Read more about this announcement in our Cuba travel policy article. Update October 25, 2019: The United States has banned American airlines from flying anywhere in Cuba EXCEPT Havana. This means you can still fly to Cuba, you just need to book a flight to Havana.

As of December 6, 2018, Cubans can enjoy full mobile internet access provided by the Cuban telecommunications company, ETECSA, at 3G speeds. Since June 4, 2013, Cubans can register with ETECSA, the public telecommunications company, for public Internet access under the “Nauta” brand in 118 centers across the country.

Is it possible to fly from the United States to Cuba?
You can fly from your hometown airport to Cuba on a major airline with less than two stopovers on the way. You can even go nonstop from New York-JFK, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and a few other cities. (You can also travel via Mexico or Canada, as Americans once did when travel to Cuba was banned, but this is no longer necessary.)

Do you need a visa to visit Cuba as an American?
Most travelers to Cuba get the regular or “green” tourist card, but if you’re arriving on a flight from America, you’ll need the pink tourist card. How many Americans travel to Cuba each year?
In 2019, nearly 500,000 people traveled from the United States to Cuba, compared to more than 638,000 in 2018. Trump went further in October 2019, demanding that American airlines cut commercial flights to nine destinations on the island (everywhere except Havana), and on January 10 it did the same for public charter flights.
